As you may know, Everest base camp trek is referred to as “a lifetime experience” which is difficult and fulfilling, winding via the Khumbu Region. The trek starts from Lukla which is the gateway to basecamp of the highest peak in the world. We move forward towards the Namche Bazaar, the home of Sherpa People.
Namche Bazaar is regarded as the central hub for people trekking high in the Himalaya, as we find a major portion of commercialization in this area.
We move forward towards Tengboche, an important and sacred Buddhist monastery located at 3,860m from sea level. The trekkers can have an opportunity to immerse themselves in a part of heaven present on Earth. You can witness unique traditional norms and practices in Tengboche monastery as well as the breathtaking Himalayan Peaks of Lhotse, Tawache, Nuptse, Thamserku, Ama Dablam, and Everest itself.
Dingboche, an important part of Khumbu region is situated at 4,410m(14470ft) from the sea level which will be our second base for acclimatization. The climate here is tundra, with cool summers, heavy rains and dry frigid winters due to its altitude and summer monsoon.
Continuing the journey, we move forward toward Lobuche, which lies within Khumbu prefecture. Lobuche is a small village near the base of the mighty Everest. Lobuche is one of the major highlighted places encountered during the trek to Everest Base Camp, that lies in the southeast route.
Gorakshep is our next destination i.e. the final stop on the way to the Everest Base Camp. This location is the starting point for people that ascend to Everest Base Camp with its elevation ranging up to 5460 meters or 17585 feet above the sea level. The mountaineers climb up Everest via this route and after the summit, trekkers will be taken to Gorak Shep. The place is famously known as “The steps to Heaven” and is the final destination for Lukla to Everest Base Camp hike.
During the upcoming day, trekkers will be continuing their journey to Kala Patthar situated at 5,545 meters above sea level. The reward from this hike will be a unique vista of the highest peak in the world “Everest” and then we will descend to Lukla through the Pheriche village, then Namche Bazaar and at last Phakding.
Things To Know about EBC Trek
After you have booked your trip with us, we take care of almost everything from your flight tickets, welcoming you, your accommodation, meals and your safety too. However, there may be some problems which you are not under our control. It’s important that you get prepared for these things so that at times you won’t be as disappointed. Here are things to consider:
Most of the people traveling to Everest Base Camp suffer from altitude sickness. The impact may vary from person to person but the air and amount of oxygen in it can’t be adjusted by everyone instantly. As travelers move upward from Namche Bazaar, the effects like dizziness, headache and palpitations can be seen. They are just the initial symptoms and can get worse if not taken care of on time.
It is highly suggested for trekkers to let their guide know about these symptoms so necessary actions can be taken immediately. One of the most effective ways to reduce the effects of Altitude Sickness is through hydration. Having Ginger tea and an intake of garlic can be helpful too to feel better at such a high altitude.
There are acclimatization days for relaxing your body and it’s important to follow along without skipping the restful sessions. As we move to higher altitude, our body gets more fragile and tired so, we have designed the 14 days itinerary to complete your trek with minimum discomfort.
Most teahouses offer 'hot showers' for a price. The only thing is there won't be overhead showers. You will have a bucket of hot water and a mug to wash yourself. While the lodges from Lukla to Namche have decent bathrooms with proper shower heads, the teahouses beyond Namche usually have utilitarian washroom facilities. Some old tea houses at the higher altitude have restrooms built outside. Be mentally prepared to use Asian or Squatting type of toilets in some places.
The places you are visiting are remote and due to limited access to resources, the place is like that. You can carry wet wipes to clean your body. Use a wet towel and take a sponge bath if you feel unclean. It gets really cold in the higher reaches, and bathing becomes next to impossible.
The weather itself forbids oneself to take a shower and in addition to that, no access to hot water and a bathtub or something comfortable is what you may face during your trek to Everest Base Camp. So, if you are someone who likes taking bath on a regular basis, you must be well prepared to let go of this habit for at least a day or two.
However, the place offers stunning natural scenery and a sense of fulfillment from nature, above Namche Bazaar your accommodation might have a slight problem. There may not be running water in the place where you have to stay overnight.
Our guide will be there for your assistance, and we will let you know about everything necessary after your arrival in Nepal. You should be carrying enough wet wipes, hand sanitizers and enough rolls of toilet papers.
Khumbu region is one of the remote areas of Nepal with no access to modern life accessories like heaters. So, houses in Khumbu have no indoor insulation or heating. Communal or living area is well heated and warm with a big stove providing heat but bedrooms are of thin plywood and can get really cold at night.
The sleeping bag can be used to layer with blankets or quilts that are provided to you. Additionally, you can fill your bottle with hot water and use it to insulate your sleeping bag.
It’s almost impossible to tell what the weather will be like in the Everest region. The weather varies almost every 2-3 hours. To tell you briefly, it may be cloudy at times and clear the next moment. The views are astonishing and the weather experience may leave you with a surprise. The nights are extremely cold so warm jackets, socks, gloves and caps are highly recommended.
The sherpa people living there have clothes made from yak wool, which is extremely helpful for weather of that extent. The travelers must be well prepared and during the packing, include protective rain gear, insulated and light airy outfits as well as clothes that can be used in all four seasons.
Challenging Long walk
However, the Everest Base Camp Trek is termed as moderately challenging; the trek from Lobuche to Gorak Shep can be difficult. The last path to Everest Base Camp is the toughest as a long and grueling walk is needed to trek from Lobuche to Gorak Shep.
You will be walking above 5000 meters from sea level and due to less oxygen in that region, trekkers might feel more exhausted than usual. In addition to that, cold air, snow and loose stones make it a difficult hike. We will embark on our adventure slowly to make sure no one falls sick.
The best time to do Everest Base Camp Trek has always been a topic of discussion before anyone plans this trek. Well, we have clarified this confusion of them and mentioned the best time for visiting Everest Base Camp below.
Avoid trekking during the monsoon (June to August) due to heavy rainfall and the winter (December to February) due to extreme cold and snow.
